EVALUATION DEADLINE

Friday 30th April 2010
All coursework must be totally completed by this date.

Back up with WORD

Students - one or two blogs have become 'corrupted' and have turned to code. We are therefore recommending that you keep a copy of your blogs on word documents.
Please don't worry too much about this - it has only happened a couple of times. However - do begin to keep a back up - just in case. your blog will be 40% of your coursework grade so it is in your interests to keep a back up!
thanks - Mary, Rebecca, Bernard, Dan, Donna, Annabel, Tony, Andrew, Ana, Justin, Micky, Marisa

Pitch & Planning - over half term

Over the half term you should be forming your ideas for your actual Thriller Film Title Sequence opening, as when you return to college you will have to present your PITCH. So you need to be sketching initial ideas for storyboards, compiling a list of titles, looking for locations and taking photos. When you return you can firm up your ideas with the rest of your group (that's if you don't manage to meet over the holiday).
Good luck with your planning!

Storyboarding

Storyboarding
Storyboarding is a really important aspect of your planning and you will be awarded MARKS FOR GOOD STORYBOARDING. You should take a lot of time thinking about the type of shots you need to use, where the titles will come in and the sequencing of your shots. Don't worry if you can't draw - as long as the gist is conveyed that's fine! One word of advice - FILL THE FRAME - don't draw tiny objects in the square. If the shot is a close up - draw a close up!
Good Luck

Watching Documentary

There is a brilliant half hour documentary in the Thriller folder on the macs about Film Openings. It is called WATCHING. Your blog and your coursework would really benefit if you watched this and posted notes about it on your blog. It's really interesting!!

The Brief

You are to create a title sequence for the opening to a Thriller film.
Your title sequence must:
*contain an opening title sequence
*contain some filmed footage
*be a maximim of two minutes long
*have a soundtrack that is non copyright

Still from 'The Wire'

What will I be marked on?

*Your own contribution to the title sequence, including the completion of the preliminary 'Match Cut' exercise
*Your own blog, which will evidence all planning work
*Your evaluation work, which will be on your blog

Title from 'Panic Room'

Do you have a Media Card?

A few people still have not paid their £5 media charge. Your Media card lets you book out equipment such as cameras, use the colour printer in the media room and it gets you entry into the cinema to see you film on the big screen. Please bring your £5 to your teacher NOW: no card =no equipment!
thanks, mary.

Intro to Camera & Health and Safety Tutorial

Intro to Camera & Health and Safety Tutorial:

In this tutorial we was introduce to the camera before we could start filming or sequences. We was giving a tutorial on how to use the follow equipment

  • Tripod
This is a great tool because it allows you to keep your camera still. It can be extended or shortened in length
  • Video camera
This is the most important tool because without it you wouldn't be able to film. We was introduce how to put in the battery into the back of the camera, how to turn it on, zoom, focus, record and how to watch the footages you've recorded.
  • Memory card and memory car reader
The memory card goes into the side of the camera either in slot A or B but before this we got to make sure its unlock because the footage will not record if its locked. When you are finish filming you go into the editing room where you just put the memory card into the reader so you can have access to it on the computers.
  • Video drive
finally this is what we store all our footages on including the work we have done on final cut pro, soundtrack and livetype.

Health and safety terms and conditions
  • Use umbrella to keep camera dry if it is raining
  • Always close the lens when finish filming
  • Nevertouch the lens
